About The Project – What is Wadi Tribe?

Thank you for visiting our website. Let us introduce you to the vision behind Wadi Tribe!

The camp’s traditional-style Bedouin tents.

Wadi Tribe is an initiative that combines the internet-savviness of German and Mexican volunteers and the local knowlegde of a Bedouin tribe settled in the Wadi Rum desert.

Wadi Tribe aims at providing experiences to tourists that are not only comfortable, but also authentic. Desert Experiences with Wadi Tribe are curated to allow guests to step into the desert and explore without worrying about anything.

We provide you with all the information you might need before arriving to Wadi Rum and tend to you with top-notch customer support, making communication between your hosts and you a breeze.

At the same time it also allows for local Bedouins to share their culture and home in a more authentic fashion, while not having to worry about maintaining an online presence.

The project grew from a collaboration of travellers and local Bedouins of the Al-Zalabiah family. Having volunteered at their camp for several weeks, these travellers kept close ties to the local Bedouins ever since.

Finally, they decided to start a collaboration that combines the best of their respective worlds: modern customer service and high-quality guidance as well as local expertise and hospitality.

The Wadi Tribe platform is mainly aimed at providing extensive and reliable information and providing a channel of communication between travellers and Bedouins.

Tours are offered and operated by the Al-Zalabiah family in Wadi Rum. The same goes for their traditional-style desert camp in the heart of the Wadi Rum desert.

Furthermore, Wadi Tribe knows about the challenges of travelling and provides solutions. Having traveled as backpackers to numerous countries, the team strived to create the so-called “Buddy Program”.

The Wadi Rum Buddy Program connects solo backpackers and allows them to link up and save up to 35 % on their trip to the Wadi Rum desert.

The idea is simple. The majority of travelers arrives to Wadi Rum alone, not getting the chance to connect with like-minded people beforehand. Therefore, the Buddy Program does the connecting for you.

If you book with us and apply for a Buddy Program participation, we will reach out to our clients and see, if there is another solo traveler to match you with. This not only saves you money on your tours, but also ensures a fun desert experience.

The desert camp from above.

The heart and soul of this project is this traditional-style desert camp in the heart of the Wadi Rum desert. With some 20 standard tents and 4 luxury tents, it is one of the smaller camps in the desert.

The individual tents are complimented by several common areas. The communal dinner tent is the focal point of the camp, hosting breakfast, lunch and dinner. Another, smaller tent offers additional communal space outside of eating times.

A fireplace offers space to rejoice in fruitful conversation and sweet Bedouin tea. Here, you will find your Bedouin hosts hanging out the most.

Guests of standard tents will use the bathhouse to use the toilet and take much-needed showers. The communal bathhouse is cleaned daily. Luxury tents have their own bathrooms.

The desert camp avoids emphasises several features crucial to Bedouin life in Wadi Rum, such as the black goat-hair tents and the Zarb, a meal cooked underground.

To accommodate guests, the camp produces electricity with its own solar panels. Water is brought by trucks and stored on the nearby mountain to ensure water pressure.
