Everything You Need to Know about thee Half Day Jeep Tour with Hike

The Half Day Wadi Rum Tour & Hike package makes you familiar with the Wadi Rum Desert one the first day, before diving deep into the desert with one of our adventure hikes. You get to call the shots!

As you arrive to Wadi Rum Village on your first day, your Bedouin guide will be waiting there to pick you up. All of our guides speak English and are prepared to guide you through Wadi Rum’s history, culture and nature.

The first day of your package will walk you through some of the most popular sights of the Wadi Rum desert. These include Nabataean remnants in the desert such as the Nabatean Temple and Lawrence Spring. Nabataeans used to live in Wadi Rum before the Bedouins arrived.

Following this, your Bedouin guide will take you deeper into the desert on the back of his 4×4 vehicle. He will introduce you to Al-Kazali Canyon, one of Wadi Rum’s many lifelines. It provides shade, cool air and water to humans, animals and plants alike. Inside, you will also find ancient rock art by the Nabataean people.

From the depths of the canyon, you will rise to the top of the Small Red Dune. Be prepared for a proper scramble but know, all is worth it. From the top of this sand dune, that built up against the side of a sandstone mountain, you will have an amazing panoramic view of the Wadi Rum Desert.

Next, your guide will introduce you to yet another wonder of the red desert, the Small Rock Bridge. The Small Rock Bridge is a natural stone arch. It is the consequence of thousands of years of rock erosion. Today, it looks almost artificial, though it has existed for millennia.

If needed, now will be the perfect time for a break. Let your Bedouin guide know and he will find a shaded spot for tea and an afternoon snack. Kick back and get some rest before embarking on the second part of your Half Day Tour.

From the Small Rock Bridge, you will venture even deeper into the desert. Wet your face and let the wind cool it down, as your Bedouin guide takes you to the edge of the red desert. There, you will find the entrance of Abu Khashaba Canyon.

Hike the length of Abu Khashaba Canyon and get familiar with the odd sandstone rock formation that almost look like molten wax. Scale the sand dune at the end of the canyon to find a sandboarding spot in the middle of the desert.

Get out the last of your energy scrambling up the hill and riding down on a sandboard, before getting one last snapshot of your Half Day Tour at Umm Froth Bridge. From there, tea and sunset will round off your day of exploring Wadi Rum. Retreat to camp, fill your stomach with a Bedouin-style dinner and get some much-needed sleep.

As the sun rises the next morning, our desert camp basks in the shade of the nearby mountain. Use the time in the cool to take a shower and have some breakfast in the communal tent. But don’t forget the time. Your guide is waiting to take you to your hike.

For your hike, you can choose between three destinations: Jabal Umm Ad Dami, Jabal Al Hash and Burdah Rock Bridge. The first two are classic three to four hike hikes, while the latter presents and fun (and sweaty) scramble to one of Wadi Rum’s highest natural stone arches.

Hikes start at our desert camp at 9 AM and usually take the better part of the day with up to four hours allocated to hiking. The rest of the day you will pass resting, eating lunch in the middle of the desert and watching the sunset once again, before you end your 1 1/2 day tour.
